Johanna stands alone on stage with only a small wooden rocking chair behind her. With no other cast member to support her, she bravely and genuinely discloses facts and anecdotes about her life so far.
The fact that her sister became a "he", and then fell pregnant is only the beginning. Despite the title of the play, the main subject matter is not transgender, but Johanna's identity and role in this new equation. To hear my review on CKUT 90.3 FM, click on the play button below.
During the standing ovation at the end of the play, I could not help but think how every family has a touch of disfunctionality. Johanna simply found healing by sharing her deepest emotions in front of a live audience who could only applaud her for her courage.
Bring a hanky because some tears will be shed.
Playing at the Centaur until January 17th, 2009.
